Lili, the resident dog at the Nanaimo Art Gallery downtown, is somewhat of an art critic and the spring show, according to her canine review, is a huge success!
"She's not into the abstract too much,” says Lili"s human interpreter Andrea Fritsche, an assistant at the gallery. “She likes bright colors and she’s definitely happy with the spring show.”
Andrea found Lili in pretty bad shape about two years ago and after some serious tender loving care and the removal of tumor on her head, Lili’s content with her life as critic and “official” greeter at the gallery.
“She greets people and most of the time she snores but she’s really good,” says Andrea. “It’s great because sometimes when people come into an art gallery they’re still a little bit shy and she breaks that right away. They feel freer to come in and just spend time here, but she’s always really careful. I think she’s got a sense about whether people like dogs or not and if she senses they don’t, she’ll just leave them alone.”
If Andrea’s at the Gallery, so is Lili and if you like dogs and want some special attention from this artsy four legged creature, bring a doggy treat. It won’t go unnoticed.
